MUST WE LEAVE OUR PRINCIPLES AT THE DOOR?
February 7 2008 Rob Keith - TMAC
Because
we all hold uniquely different views politically, it is not comfortable
while wearing my "Pastor" cap to write about political issues. Now,
wearing my "Texas Moral Action Committeeman" cap, and with a
Presidential Primary election in our state only a few days away, it
weighs on me to urge our people to get to the polls by whatever means
possible.
It has been all over the news publications and air waves that the
matter has been virtually decided. A Republican candidate has been
tentatively declared by the media. He has only one opponent left at the
time this article is being drafted, and that one is trailing badly in
delegate count.
The leading candidate is the most Moderate (venture
to say most Liberal) of all who ran. It seems those who will vote in
that Primary are being pressed to leave conservative principles at the
door and align behind him or remain quiet in their opposition. Doing so
will only endorse his political position and solidify his will to follow
that course.
Please vote your convictions even if in
opposition. Your vote will not be wasted; each one has great power to
make the will of the people heard.
There appears to be two strong Democratic candidates in the running, and
Texans may well be the voice that decides which will be chosen to run as
the Presidential Candidate. Sadly, there are no Moderate, or
Conservative Democrats left in the running. Both are the most Liberal
candidates of those who ran, never the less your one vote has a loud
voice in determining the platform of your party. Please do not let any
emotional motive of race or gender determine your choice, but vote your
convictions.
Finally, Scripture does not give clear guidance in choosing one
candidate over another except possibly in character and morals.
Scripture does strongly urge God's children to become involved in the
process, and The Word commands that prayer be made for those who would
lead and made without ceasing for the one finally chosen. Our committee
is glad to get into the hands of those who desire voter guides to help
you with your task. The Guides that we can give you access to are based
on family and Christian values.
My prayers are with you and my trust in you, Rob Keith, Assistant
Chairman -Texas Moral Action Committee
