Moral Action Committee Reports
Bro. Terry Swonke, Pastor
Security Calvary Baptist Church
Cleveland, Texas
I was eight years old when prayer was taken out of school and I am still suffering for it today. Back then I did not know God as a Christian as I do today, but one thing I did know is that a person did what was right.
If someone had an opinion it was just that, an opinion. But now Craig Eiland (D) from Galveston would like to keep you and me from sharing not our opinion but rather sharing what is the truth. He is proposing H.B. 1348 which would make it against the law to tell our church members and our neighbors what God's Word says about things such as abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide, free speech, and other issues, in any type of mail-out; and this even includes church bulletins.
Like most of the people my age I was raised to vote the way my parents thought. But what has happened is politicians have changed. And just because they may go to church does not mean they agree with what God's Word says. Mr. Eiland's new bill will not even allow churches to place the name of a political leader on a prayer list if it is to be mailed. And just as no one thought prayer would ever be taken out of school, some are probably thinking right now that this bill would never pass. We need to make sure it doesn't. And if you think this does not affect you, here are some other organizations that it affects: civic organizations, homeowners associations, or other nonprofit organizations that are not political action committees.
Pastors and deacons it would do us well to inform our churches of this bill for we are the ones that will be charged with the felony. It is time that we not look to the political party but rather look at the person and make sure that they believe what we believe and what God's Word teaches. Let your state representative know how you feel on this matter. If we do not do what is right what chance do the generations have that follow us?
Ecclesiastes 12:14; For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
