Call to Morality

As a member of the Moral Action Committee, at times I ask myself, “What exactly is moral action?” Have you ever asked yourself that question? Do you understand from a spiritual view what that is? God tells us what it is as well as what we should do about it. “If ye, then, being risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:1-2.) The Apostle Paul was a very visible and vocal spokesman for the cause of Christ. As twenty-first century Christians, we act as if we are too sophisticated to tell or show our beliefs to others.
As I have been watching the Olympics the last several days, I have been reminded by the news media that people are more interested in the activities on TV because of their exposure. More people are going skiing. More people are going ice skating. More people are even going curling. The question that comes to mind is, “Why are people not more moral because of their exposure to it?” The main reason is they don’t come into contact with it. In reality, most of the world and even some Christians don’t live morally. The world lives and teaches abortion, fornication, drinking, gambling, homosexuality, and many other sins against God.
Again, what does moral action imply? There are two words here. Let’s us see what Merriam-Webster has to say about them.
First, moral- 1 a : of or relating to principles of right and wrong in behavior: <moral judgments> b : expressing or teaching a conception of right behavior <a moral poem> c : conforming to a standard of right behavior d : sanctioned by or operative on one's conscience or ethical judgment <a moral obligation> e : capable of right and wrong action <a moral agent>.
Second, action- 1 : an act of will 2 a : a thing done : b : the accomplishment of a thing usually over a period of time, in stages, or with the possibility of repetition.
So what is moral action? It is willfully conforming to a Godly standard repeatedly. Who should do this? Certainly, the members of the Moral Action Committee, but even more than these. God tells us in His word that all believers are held accountable to spread the good news. That means that we should not only “talk the talk,” but we should also “walk the walk.” We are to present ourselves as living stones for that house eternal in the heavens. God tells us over and over to walk in spirit and in truth. By reading the following passages, we are encouraged and commanded to walk boldly in moral action. Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, Romans 12:1-2; Walk worthy, 1 Thessalonians 2:12; and We are called unto Holiness, 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12.
Speak out for the cause of Christ. Satan will speak boldly for his cause as he is already defeated. Christ has already won. We are on the winning team. We as Christians should relay to a lost world that “Morality” is not an option, it is a commandment.
