Gird Yourself for the Battle

Sound bytes from every news source name "wars" going on within the borders of our country, and I assume that means within the boundaries of our beloved state: the war on homelessness, hunger, and poverty; the war on illiteracy; the war on drugs and crime; the war on terrorism. These are all battles in the true war on our nation and state--a war we may lose if God's people continue to ignore His call to the battle lines.

Satan lives and is attacking as hard as he has ever attacked. He is leading the attack on our faith. Bible truths, godliness, and reverence are ridiculed by celebrities and legislators. Jesse Ventura, former governor of Minnesota and not most notable as a celeb and legislator but notably vocal, is quoted as saying, "Organized religion is a sham and a crutch for weak minded people who need strength in numbers." To return to the traditional moral society many of us remember, we need believers who will step up and vote their values in the approaching elections. We need believers who will become a beacon of God's truth and witnesses to His love.

Satan is leading the attack on our homes. A liberal court has gone on record that, "parents have no intrinsic right to determine the type of education their children receive." Legislators who have passed laws preventing our children from receiving even an aspirin at school have also passed laws allowing the administration of mood altering drugs, the distribution of contraception devices, and the arranging of abortions without parental notification. To defend our homes and families we need Christian parents to step forward in spiritual leadership to take back the authority over their children's upbringing. We need parents who will become a landmark of Christian morality in their home, school, work place, and community.

Satan is leading the attack on our friends. Our friends that have values and stand behind them are called "ignorant," "intolerant," and "hypercritical." They are ridiculed as being "behind the times" and "old fashioned." My friends and yours are being called names, laughed at, and verbally abused. Thank God for friends that are "old fashioned." Our friends need more Christians willing to step up with them and remember a better society when being "old fashioned" meant being ethical, honest, reverent, and law abiding. They need folks to stand with them that remember when our children were safe at school and honored their parents. They need folks to stand with them who think it was a good time when our homes could be left unlocked, when those who could work for a living did, and when those who couldn't were cared for by family and friends, and when there was no question where our family would be on Sunday morning. We need more folks who will step up and be church planters or church planter supporters.

Thank you for the honor of serving on the Texas Moral Action Committee and please remember the committee in your prayers, personal giving and church budgets. We are not a "high maintenance" committee, so even a small offering is a great help, and every prayer is appreciated deeply.
